About Northern Gauteng Orchid Society
The Northern Gauteng Orchid Society (NGOS) is a vibrant community of orchid enthusiasts, ranging from casual window-sill growers to serious species collectors. Based in Pretoria, we are dedicated to the study, cultivation, and preservation of orchids. Our society provides a platform where botanical expertise meets a shared passion for nature’s most diverse floral family — but where curiosity and enthusiasm are equally valued.
Our Meeting Venue
We meet on the second Saturday of each month at the Safari Garden Centre in Lynnwood. Join us at 14:00 for orchid sales, plant table discussions, and expert presentations from respected growers and specialists.
Our Annual Shows

Our Roots and Our Region
Founded in [FOUNDING YEAR – TO BE CONFIRMED], the Northern Gauteng Orchid Society (NGOS) emerged from the shared passion of a small community of enthusiasts in Pretoria. What began as an informal network for the exchange of botanical knowledge has matured into a prestigious society at the heart of South Africa's orchid culture.
Our journey is reflected in the evolving botanical landscape of Gauteng. For decades, our members have developed specialized techniques for cultivating orchids within the unique climate and altitude of the Highveld basin. We take great pride in our heritage, consistently working to document and preserve the institutional expertise required to make exotic and indigenous species flourish within our own landscape.
