Environmental Control Fundamentals

Successful orchid culture begins with environmental design rather than plant acquisition. Understanding light intensity, humidity gradients, airflow management, and temperature differentials is fundamental to replicating habitat conditions.

01

Light

Matching genus to intensity and photoperiod.

04

Temperature

Understanding diurnal variation requirements.

02

Air Movement

Continuous gentle airflow to prevent fungal pathogens.

05

Media Selection

Balancing drainage, aeration, and moisture retention.

03

Humidity

Managing ambient humidity while avoiding stagnation.

06

Fertilisation

Low-dose, consistent nutrient regimes with periodic flushing.
